Lee County schools looking for name suggestions for the old Lehigh Acres Middle School

LEHIGH ACRES

The School district of Lee County is reopening the original Lehigh Acres Middle School on Arthur Avenue as a stand-alone middle school beginning in August 2023 and needs a new name for it.

The school will serve sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students in the fall who choose the school during the January 17 to March 3 open enrollment period.

The district has a couple of considerations it would like people to make before suggesting a name.

The history, culture, and people of Florida and especially of Southwest Florida;
The natural environment and native plants and animals of Florida and especially of Southwest Florida;
Notable events or achievements that are associated with Florida and especially with Southwest Florida;
The neighborhood, community, or physical location of the school;
Founders, leaders, heroes, symbols, and fundamental principles of our nation.

Lee County schools are in the process of appointing a principal who will hire a team of administrators, teachers, and support staff. Currently, the school is referred to as Middle School QQ.

You can submit a name for the school by clicking here.

Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. January 26. Then a committee will review the suggestions and narrow them down for a second community input session in February.

The original Lehigh Acres Middle School closed at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. The campus went through an $18.6 million renovation and remodeling project in 2022.

New classrooms, new science, and computer labs with state-of-the-art equipment were added, as well as dedicated rooms for dance, music, and art, an upgraded gym, and a media center.

A new Lehigh Acres Middle School opened in August of 2021 on Sunrise Blvd., with students and staff from the original school transferring to the new campus.
