FORT MYERS
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, Police Chief Derrick Diggs has died.
FMPD posted the following on Facebook on Wednesday morning:
“On behalf of Acting Chief Pepitone and the entire Fort Myers Police Department family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Police Chief Derrick Diggs.”
In July 2022, Diggs went on family medical leave. As recently as December, FMPD indicated that he planned to return to work in April.
No word yet as to what caused Diggs’ death.
