IMMOKALEE
Three Michigan State University students were killed in a Monday night campus shooting that critically wounded five others. One of those five people in the hospital is a young woman from Immokalee: Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez.
Huapilla-Perez is a hospitality business junior at MSU and a student in the Michigan State University College Assistance Migrant Program.
Huapilla-Perez’s older sister Selena said her family traveled to Michigan to be with Guadalupe, and she is a long way from returning to them as she was. Selena added that doctors say the process for a full recovery will take months of care and rehabilitation.
Selena Huapilla-Perez also says Guadalupe is a leader in the community and is incredibly hard-working, focused and ambitious, always standing up for their community and speaking out for marginalized voices.
